Bob Marley t-shirts, and posters, seem to be part of the survival kit of most university students these days. It's almost impossible, to stumble through any college campus, without getting a glimpse of the King of Reggae somewhere.
Bob Marley t-shirts, and posters, seem to be part of the survival kit of most university students these days. It's almost impossible, to stumble through any college campus, without getting a glimpse of the King of Reggae somewhere. No doubt his music is just as popular as it ever was, and if you ask the most people on the street, they could tell you who the man was. Chances are pretty good, they could even sing or at least hum a few phrases of his music. Now, I don't suggest this, but if you were able to see what was hanging on the walls of many of those same students dorm walls, I bet there would be more then a few Bob Marley posters, photographs or prints. Why exactly is that? For an artist that hasn't released a single new song in over 25 years that is certainly a perplexing phenomena. Perplexing, but true. What is it, that makes a celebrity a celebrity? Hard to say, as there are so many, but for the most part, it is a larger than life mystique. Celeberties come and go. Even some icons come and go, but some stay within our pop culture bubble for generations. Bob Marley does. True part of it may because of a tragically short life, but part of it was also the universal message of love he sang of. Did even Bob Marley know, that his popularity would continue on so long after his passing? Likely not. And I wonder for how many more years it will continue. There are over 2.7 million searches a month for the name Bob Marley in Google. That's incredible. I guess will be seeing his posters, and hearing his music for some years yet. Kinda interesting isn't it. What is it that makes Bob Marley almost twice as looked for as Marilyn Monroe, and almost four times as looked for as John Lennon? Honestly, I don't know. It definitely indicates an interest in Bob Marley, and all things related to Bob Marley, such as music, lyrics, artwork, videos, photographs and posters. I think a little further research is warranted here, to explain these numbers. Suffice it to say though, that Bob Marley was about more than just Reggae music. His was a message that rang true not only through the world, but also through the generations. Luckily for ours and future generations, that music and message is still there for everyone.
