This, of course, is made possible by none other than the direct marketing industry. The direct marketing industry is a massive industry that most people are not even aware exists. It consists of hundreds of different corporations all across the United States and throughout the world abroad that have been specializing in aiding companies in their growth since the beginning of the twentieth century.

The most commonly found form of direct marketing is the classic company catalogue. Whether a fashion catalogue or a computer catalogue, companies are able to display their entire inventory to consumers at their own convenience. All this is done by mailing a catalogue directly to the potential customer's home.

Our focus is the concept that brought the catalogue to the consumer in the first place. How is it that the catalogue selling these particular items was able to make its way a consumer that is likely to be interested in them? The direct marketing industry solves that issue.

The direct marketing industry is able to provide lists of different pieces of information to all different kinds of companies. For example, a company that sells bed sheets would most likely be interested in a list of people who recently bought mattresses in order to advertise bed sheets.

A direct marketing company would then make it their business to find a list of people, perhaps from a particular area who recently bought mattresses because, most likely, they are probably looking for bed sheets.

As today's global economy is generally networked and backed up on computers, the creation of such files of information has become something very easy to do and very profitable. In fact, there are many such examples throughout the industry.

Even though catalogues and the like are still commonly used forms of direct marketing, a major shift has taken place in the industry where today many direct marketers use bulk email marketing. Email marketing campaign software has been recently created in order to perfect the new form of direct marketing, making email marketing easier and more available for companies to use.
