There are a lot of methods floating around the Internet these days to supposedly help you generate web traffic. They range from the truly ridiculous, to systems that actually work.
There are a lot of methods floating around the Internet these days to supposedly help you generate web traffic. They range from the truly ridiculous, to systems that actually work. In my five years running a full-time web business, I've tried a lot of these traffic generating methods. Let me tell you about some of them that work and some to stay away from. Tactics That Don't Work: Free for all web directories: Don't waste your time. Everyone in only interested in promoting their own offer. They aren't there to look at yours. The webmaster usually set up such a website for the sole purpose of sending ads to everyone who submits an ad or website to their directory. The ad comes in the acceptance email. No one probably reads those either. Mass Spam Email: Don't even think about. It's a real fast way to get yourself in big trouble with your web host and your Internet Service Provider. Also, who would buy from someone sending them junk email. People hate to get spam email. Plus, now with so many spam filters out there, most of your emails will just end up in the trash folder, never to be seen or read. Junk Website Creating Software: Let's face it. If it was as easy as clicking a button and having a great website that pulled in hordes of traffic, everyone would be doing it. Don't waste your money. Buying A Magic Money Making System. Money doesn't just fall from the sky. It's not as easy as some people pretend it is. Don't buy every money making system that hits the market. Worthwhile Tactics: PPC (pay per click): While a great method of receiving target traffic, it's also very expensive. Who can afford to spend $400 to make $300? Not recommended for beginners. Social Network Posting. Signing up and posting to social networks such as digg or reddit can bring you some traffic. It does take time to post on a regular basis though. You don't want to look like a spammer and just promote your money pages all the time. You'll just get kicked off. If you do want to follow this route, you can try Squidoo or Hubpages. These sites get a lot of traffic. Just don't expect to throw up some junk and get a lot of visitors. You'll have to spend some time making a quality page. The Best Tactic: Submitting Articles: This is my favorite traffic generating method. You not only get direct traffic from the article directories, but you also get a lot of highly targeted one-way backlinks. Pick a topic related to your website and spend some time researching and writing a good quality article. Submit your article to at least the top 10 article directories. Many sites offer a list of the most popular article directories. Just search in Yahoo or Google for these. Not only should you submit to the biggest and best article directories, but also make sure to submit to niche article directories. This will give you the biggest advantage in the search engines due to the related theme of your site and theirs. Also, more people are likely to click through to your website. Example: if you run a health and fitness website, be sure to submit your article to as many health article directories you can find. Try to write and submit at lease one or more articles per week. Make it a habit. It'll pay off in the long run. More information: If you run a health or fitness related website, please feel free to submit your articles to our PR3 Health article directory.
