Will affiliate marketing work for you? Of course!-- but only if you learn the right habits of mind. Earning extra money at home can easily can be overwhelming at first. Here are three tips to help you get on track and stay on track.

1. Can you draw it on the back of an envelope?

I knew of a famous politician who bragged that he never read anything more than a page in length. So far as he was concerned, if it wasn't short and to the point, it wasn't worth knowing about anyway!

What about your business? Can you draw it, or describe it on a sheet of paper or a postcard? If not, I bet it needs to be simplified.

People pretend that affiliate marketing is some kind of deep science. It isn't. Become a product affiliate. Use the website already given to you by the product provider, or come up with you own. Get traffic to that site. Get paid.

I've just described my business in thirty or forty words. What about YOUR business?

If not, why not? What are you doing "extra" that might not be all that essential?

2. Napoleon, the great general, fought his wars one battle at a time.

Napoleon wanted to take over all of Europe. (You and I don't have to do that!)

How did he think he was going to do that? One battle at a time!

His downfall came when he bit off more than he could chew!

Earning extra money at home does not require you to wage wars of conquest. (I promise you it's easier than that.)

Use Napoleon's method. Do it one bit at a time!

Is pay per click what you're doing now? Don't stop until you have it under your belt.

Are you developing your first subscriber's list? Do that until you really understand it.

Don't get distracted with this week's "hottest/ latest/sexiest" traffic source.

Will affiliate marketing work for the newest recruit? Yes it will! But beware taking on too much before you are ready!

You can trust me on this. I've learned that lesson... several times!

3. Fail as often as you can.

Ever heard that advice? An oldie, but still a goodie!

Failing often, and then being willing to fail again, means we have the courage to get over our mistakes.

My education, and probably yours too, taught us the wrong lesson. School taught us that failure was "wrong" and merited punishment.

What we were taught at school ill serves us in the real world, either on- or offline.

Willingness to fail is simply willingness to see what works, and you will never find out out what works for you if you are not willing to make a mess.

Let's put it this way: Making a mess is the only way to learn in the real world.

My very first pay per click campaign got me nothing but a headache. I hadn't the faintest idea what I was doing--- and I didn't even understand THAT!

Just as fruitless was my first subscriber list.

And yet... here I am. Still.

Will you still be in business in a year? Two years? Five years?

I hope with all my heart that you will stick with failure as long as it takes to see success.

Earning extra money at home as an affiliate is no big deal--- but you've got to have the right attitude! Will affiliate marketing work for you? Only if you stick to a very simple, doable business plan, take it one step at a time, and be willing to fail until you succeed. The richest, most influential people on the planet succeeded in just that way. Why not just do what they did?
