There is only one way to earn real money in affiliate program sales: promote, promote, and promote some more! For the new marketer, it is crucial that you keep your costs down. Even if you are experienced in the business, it is simply senseless to spend money needlessly. Here are some suggestions as to how you may promote your affiliate product without spending a dime in advertising.

1. Start by writing an article.

Articles are one of the oldest and most trusted ways of spreading the word about your affiliate product on the net. Getting an article published is simple, even if you are not a particularly gifted writer. But--- don't be too brash with your affiliate promotion in your article.

Publish your article in the top five or six article directories. Then, rewrite your article and publish in the next ten to twenty most popular directories. The purpose of the rewrite is to prevent the search engines from clobbering you with a duplicate content penalty.

Here is a strict guideline: Do NOT talk about your product directly. Instead, give the reader good quality content about your niche. If your niche is to do with building doll houses, then give the reader a good article on how to solve (say) the top three most common problems in building doll houses.

Good quality article directories (and you should ONLY deal with the best) do not like blatant affiliate program sales promotions. Be subtle!

You have to give; only then can you take. Your resource box may contain your website (top level domain only). You have a good chance of getting the reader's click if you have earned it by first giving good information.

You can earn real money with this strategy.

But wait, there's more!--

2. Now turn your article into a tutorial. This is just changing your article's format. You are now presenting your information in the form of a step by step "how-to". Submit your new tutorial to educational, "how-to" type websites like eHow. These sites get good traffic, and you're ahead of the posse because many article marketers don't think to do this. And it's still free.

3. And now... turn your tutorial into a Powerpoint slideshow! You can submit to sites like Slideshare for nothing. Place your URL in the Powerpoint, and take advantage of another powerful source of traffic that is still... yep, FREE!

4. Last, turn your Powerpoint into a video. If you want to spend money, invest in Camtasia, but you can still get good results for nothing with CamStudio.

The easiest option is simply to add voiceover to your Powerpoint, though you could make your video fresh if you feel like it. For voiceover work, your own voice comes free of charge (duh!), but you can outsource this if you want someone with a bit more dramatic flair.

If you really, really want to spend money on video, try Article Video Robot. They are a monthly paid service who turn articles into videos with music and voiceover. I have never tried them myself, so I can't vouch for them. Why don't you give them a shot, and then... write an article about it?!

What are your overall results now? Well, you wrote one article, and published it in four different formats!

There's no shortage of free traffic sources--- these are just intended to be helpful hints. Article directories and social bookmarking sites--- already well known and popular--- are just the beginning.

Any article can be recycled into some non-article form, such as a Pdf. file, .exe file or RSS feed. These can all now be published for free in sites specializing in such formats, and are all available to you as free traffic sources.

My overall advice: get your article out there in as many formats as you can, and you can earn real money in affiliate program sales.
