Pay per Click: To get started in affiliate marketing, it's important to get comfortable with PPC or "Pay per Click" marketing. See those ads Google puts up on the right side of every search page? Those ads are paid for by advertisers, who pay Google a per click fee. It can be anywhere from a few pennies to fifty bucks! To effectively use PPC, you have to learn keyword research. When you sign up for a Google Adwords account, start exploring their keyword tool, and learn the layout. I want you to pay special attention to the "Global Monthly Search Volume". You want low volume keywords for your PPC campaigns because they cost the least. 2. Use the affiliate website to start with. Instead of going to the trouble of building your own website, you as a novice should just use the affiliate site given to you by the vendor. There are a couple of reasons for doing this. The guy who created the affiliate scheme in the first place will have taken the trouble to build a good sales page-- after all they want to earn money easily and with minimal hassle, don't they?-- so take advantage of that fact. Minimize the number of new tasks you have to learn. As a newbie, you need to avoid "information overwhelm". 3. Learn to advertise widely and cheaply. Take advantage--- if you are a decent writer, you can stand out here. I do not claim to be Tolstoy, but I do like to think that I bring a bit of myself to articles I write, and that's what makes for good connections with readers. It goes without saying... have a link to your site after every piece you publish. (Note of caution: Article directories typically have strict rules about what type of links you can include in your articles, where you can place them, and what are deemed acceptable and unacceptable links. Learn the rules and follow them without question-- you don't want to find yourself banned from article directories which, properly used, can give you terrific exposure.)
