The "secret" is some supposedly hidden information that will make you rich overnight. I'm here to tell you there is no secret, never has been, and never will be. The best way to earn money in affiliate marketing is obvious to anyone who cares to look. Here are three pieces of sound advice I have picked up during my time in this industry. 1. Remember your purpose. Building a business-- any business-- is inconvenient. No one is going to ring your doorbell and hand you a big whopping check. You have to carve out your success one day at a time, and there always seems to be something in the way! Your kid gets sick, or messes up in school, and you have to tend to that. Your supervisor at work (because you still have a job, right?!) is giving you the third degree over something you know isn't that important anyway. Your bank is calling time on a loan. (Happens all too often nowadays, I'm afraid.) What keeps us moving forward in the face of such opposition? Is it money? I do not believe that any sane person is really that driven by thoughts of piles of money in a bank vault. It's not money, but what money can do for us, that moves us forward. What's your reason for being in business? Is it just for you--- so that you can have that feeling of accomplishment? Is it so you can retire young (or at least younger!)? Is if something that money can do for your family? Think this one out. Find your "reason why". This is important. Take the time to know WHY you are in business. You will quit in a month if you do not have a sufficiently powerful WHY. 2. Remember your plan for success. I remember well my first attempts at earning money online. The whole project was so complex, and posed so many huge challenges for me, that I forgot what the end result was supposed to be. I told myself that I had so much going (at least on paper) that surely I had cracked this business, and that I had truly stumbled upon the best way to earn money on the net! I spend nearly an entire year on my project, and wasted months trying to figure out far too much on my own. After all that, what did I have to justify all that work? I had, quite simply, a mess. And an expensive one, too! Learn from my mistakes. There's no need for you to make them too. Keep your business and your business plan as simple as possible. Your business and your business plan are not the same thing. A business is where you end up, hopefully. A business plan is the method for getting there. A business is the business plan made flesh, so to speak. Your business and your business plan should both fit on one sheet of paper. If it doesn't, you're already making things too complicated. Try describing your project to a twelve-year-old. Can you do it? Can you make yourself understood? If not... why not? Keep It Simple, Silly! 3. Remember you cannot escape work. You're not lazy, are you? Don't worry. You're not lazier than me! To make it in the affiliate industry, we need to invent a work ethic for ourselves. The gurus who are selling you the BIG SECRET for $97.00, and who then say to you that the REAL secret is just around the corner, and can be had for an additional 37 bucks, are playing to our laziness. Isn't it the case that we all want things to happen for us with the minimum of effort and pain? Be honest! More bad news: Affiliate marketing success is not going to hit us on the head like a gold brick. We're going to have to dig it up for ourselves. Ands... that's it. The secret, if ever there was one, is in front of our noses. Affiliate marketing sales success comes when you have a big enough "why", a simple enough plan, and the determination to see it through.
