There are all sort of online gurus who want you to believe that they have cracked the secret of online riches. That's how they keep you buying their marketing products! But there really is no big secret to earning money from home with an affiliate marketing plan. The same qualities that help you succeed offline work online. Patience and hard work are as valuable today as they were a hundred years ago.

So--- what are the exact steps you should take to get going online?

First of all, decide what your business is going to be. Find a need and fill it: if you see a need online that is not being sufficiently well filled, or that could be filled better or more cheaply, that may be the niche you want to pursue.

What is hot online right now? Try a site called Nicheology (no, I am not their affiliate!). It's a paid site, but they have their finger on the online pulse regarding what is really hot at any given moment.

Once you have decided on a niche that interests you and where you believe there is money to be made, follow up that decision by becoming an affiliate marketer for a good, solid product in that niche.

Clickbank is the world's largest online purveyor of affiliate programs-- they say they have over 10,000 to choose from. (I have never counted but I am inclined to believe them.)

There is a bit of a learning curve with Clickbank, but don't be put off. All Clickbank members, whether newbies or millionaires, are like you--- they are trying to succeed at earning money from home in their own online businesses, and they have found Clickbank to be the perfect partner. So keep at it--- it's well worth the effort.

If you are just starting out, please, for now, avoid trying to sell your own product.

If you think this is the way to start earning money from home, you are likely to suffer from "information overwhelm"-- you'll find yourself saddled with too many tasks which will all be new to you, and you will get bogged down trying to figure it all out at once. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

And quite simply, you don't have that luxury-- you need to earn money quickly.

To earn money through an affiliate marketing plan, you don't even have to come up with your own webpage-- you just use the one provided for you, unless, of course, the affiliate page is truly awful.

Should that be the case, contact the vendor about getting one custom designed for you.

Having signed up and gotten set up as an affiliate, the next step is to drive traffic to the sales page and start getting sales. By the way, it is essential that you first buy and use the product yourself. How can you honestly recommend it to others if you haven't?

To drive traffic, I recommend article and forums for the beginner.

The links in your articles and forum posts will take people to the sales page. Don't over sell; just talk about the product or niche in a friendly, informative way.

Only when you have started to actually make some money as an affiliate reseller should you consider putting up your own site. And, again, because you are still relatively new, I strongly suggest you outsource this task.

There are two reasons to have your own site. Number one, you can discuss your niche and your product in articles you post on your site, and, number two, you can include a sign up box to induce people to subscribe to a free newsletter.

Maintain your links to your affiliate sales page, of course, but in addition you are establishing your authority in your niche. With your blog and your subscriber list, you are now growing a real online business.

So, to recap: Choose your niche, find a good affiliate program to promote, use the website provided to start out with, make a few bucks, then develop you own site. With your own site, get subscribers and grow a following through your blog.

Assume there will be problems and setbacks, and learn from them. When all is said and done, the web is a big place and is very forgiving of failure. (I know a lot about that!)

And then --- develop your very own product.

And finally-- sell your product through an affiliate program.

Simple and logical! Simple, logical, but most of all--- doable. And you can do this!

Earning money from home is not the huge mountain to climb you might think it is. You start selling through a third party affiliate marketing plan, and you end with becoming an affiliate program vendor yourself. If you persist with this plan, you will have come full circle!
