On the surface, pay per click marketing does look good. Who cannot say no to loads of traffic, and being on top of the 'paid listing' of search engines? The interested business owner will of course go for it, since this can bring in great results for his business. But is it really all good things about this form of advertising?

Let it be known that this advertising called pay per click does have some serious issues, and it is important that business owners should know about these issues and pitfalls.

To easily understand pay per click and its drawbacks, below are the major issues that should be kept in mind to avoid failures in pay per click.

● Cost. This form of advertising can cost you lots of money. And you may get caught up in a tug of war for keywords that will not give you the promised returns. Yahoo! has its own 'auto bid' which can increase your bid in order to maintain the current rank for the listing. You may think that this is helpful, but upon closer inspection you will note that this can hurt you.

● Return on Investment (ROI) can be difficult to measure. ROI is a measure of how much you gain per investment you have put in. In the case of pay per click, it may be hard to determine. You may need to have conversion tracker services to be able to know if you are making money.

● Junk traffic. Prepare for traffic that is exactly not relevant to your targeted audience. There are pay-per-click services providers that will distribute the results to the search engines. It is good to get traffic coming from major search engines, but there are times when your site may get the traffic from some sources and this kind of traffic is something that will not help your cause online.

● Pay per click does not scale. When you eventually get a good number of site visitors after engaging into pay per click, there may be good chances of earning more and cost per click on your ad may not increase but the entire cost will increase.

These reasons should be carefully examined before you engage in pay per click. Indeed pay per click marketing is a very helpful tool for those who want to earn online but its risks should also be considered to make this advertising work for you.
