You can earn a steady income from web marketing, and many Internet marketers are doing just that. It's not easy, and it will not happen in a week, or even a month (despite the claims of some "gurus". And it will require regular maintenance and monitoring, if you want to make the most of it. It will take work and lots of time, and the more time spent putting a good foundation in place, the better guarantee there is of future success. For a newbie Internet Marketer, there is a bewildering variety of products that can be promoted as an affiliate, or information products (eBooks) for which you can buy "resell rights". It can be a daunting and a time-consuming process to sift through all these, and choose something for which there will be a demand . But regardless which product you promote, (or whether you have your own information product), to be a success online, you should always be aware of these 2 important points: (I am assuming here that you have a personal website, or blog. If not, it is very easy to set one up). 1. You must drive traffic to your website 2. You must build an 'optin list' No. 1 will provide growth to no. 2. Your subscriber list may well be your main source of revenue, so it's important to work on the marketing of your site and attract more and more visitors. Without either website or list, it is still possible to earn a good living online. You can send traffic (via your affiliate link) to the merchant's pages, or you can have an ebay shop or drop-ship business. But for most people involved in web marketing, it will mean having their own website from which they make sales, get mailing list opt-ins and keep the site updated with content that is relevant to their niche. You should take a critical look at your home page and see if you feel that it's a place you would like to hang around for a while, or would you want to move on. It should be visually appealing, but the style should not be "overpowering", or detract from the content. The list optin box should be in a prominent place - good suggestions are top left or top right of the content area (below the header). And it should have an enticing offer, such as an ebook of useful marketing tips, or a weekly newsletter. A graphic of the free gift will help to increase the signup rate. And it's very important to aim for "repeat traffic". So that your readers will want to revisit again and again, keep your blog updated frequently. This will help to increase the interest level, and it will give you better page rank with search engines, because they always register new content. Another useful tool you can use is the "trackback" - this is where you make mention of another, similar blog on your own blog, by placing a hyperlink to it, in the text of your review or synopsis of the other blog. This improves your "visibility" to the search engines, and topotential customers.
