Let's start with the basics Affiliate marketing is an internet marketing model where a person who is selling a product, the merchant, will give commissions to internet sales people, or affiliates, in order to spread the word and help sell his or her product or services. The merchant. This is another term for the seller. This is the person who created the product or is trying to sell a service. Their main goal is to get as many people to their sales page or website as possible to try and convert them to sales. The merchant wants people buying their product. The Affiliate - The affiliate is the sales person. This person gets a commission for each sale they bring to the merchant's site. So the affiliate will market and try to drum up as much traffic as possible, sending the traffic to the merchant site. The affiliate will earn a commission for anyone referred to the merchant's site who decides to buy the product. The Affiliate network - The affiliate network is the middle man. They bring the merchant together with the affiliate usually taking a small piece for themselves. Usually the affiliate network will take care of the actual credit card transactions and even takes care of paying the affiliates automatically. So why do we do affiliate marketing? Well its a give and take. The merchants get a sales force and a ton of free traffic. And the affiliates get paid a commission for the hard work in the trenches. Everybody is happy. It expands the reach of the merchant and the affiliates get paid without having their own product. Affiliate marketing is a model that has worked well and even boomed on the internet do to the power of connecting to tons of people.
